Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir, Clone 828
In 2000, a neighbor planted the very first Pinot Noir Clone 828, originating from Dijon, France on a small vineyard on the northern Sonoma Coast.
In 2004, the movie Sideways was released and Pinot Noir became a craze. We were judged #1 Pinot Noir in 2002, and the first crop of Clone 828 was harvested in 2006. We were offered this fruit to make it's very first expression, along with a half dozen local winemakers. Except for our Estate Grown, it was the best wine we'd ever made. But he wouldn't sell it to us again, as he had his own winery plans.
We immediately found another vineyard that would offer us a 5 year contract and we've been happy ever since, as you will be. This is a quintessential Sonoma Coast vineyard, yet still delicate, complex and balanced.
