European semi-sweet wines were the rage in the 1970s. Blue Nun, a German Liebfroumilch, was a fave. Mateus Rosé from Portugal was the most popular wine in the world....
At the same time, a new entrant, White Zinfandel, joined the ranks of American wines, made by Sutter Home. It was sweet, even cloying. Following Sutter Home, almost every winery launched its version of White Zin, establishing tiers by price and status. Never considered a fine wine, it however set the stage for America to become a wine drinking culture.
Our White Zinfandel is made from a single vineyard of Russian River Valley grapes. It’s bottled in a dry, intentional, direct-pressed style, delivering a perfect celebration wine, a sophisticated aperitif, or an approachable everyday wine for spicy meals. Order a bottle of our most surprising varietal, and begin enjoying an elevated dry rosé wine with a much more complex array of flavors than any you’ve ever experienced.
This dry White Zinfandel is nothing like your mother’s Zins. At Halleck Vineyard, we sell White Zinfandel wine with a refined, sophisticated quality. In fact, our signature dry rosé wine has been awarded a Double Gold at the North Coast Wine Challenge for its artful balance of flavors. With sip after sip, you’ll savor the tantalizing flavors of cherry and strawberry, with just a hint of apricot. With a gentle but crisp acidity and a long, clean finish, our dry White Zinfandel will add a refreshing lift to any occasion, from the first glass to the last.
What is White Zinfandel?
Although its name would suggest otherwise, White Zinfandel is not a white wine. It’s a rosé derived from blue-black Zinfandel grapes, the same grapes used to make red Zinfandel wine. The signature blush color of White Zinfandel bleeds from the dark skin of the grapes that are left to soak in the pressed grape juice for a short time. The resulting wine can be made in a wide range of styles, from startlingly sweet to bone dry. Early in our winemaking journey, we discovered that the best White Zinfandels were made in a style called “Direct Press.” The resulting product is an award-winning rosé you can order online that continues to delight with each harvest. It is intentional. It is dry and complex. And it allows us to redefine what drinking the best White Zinfandel tastes like. Fully fermented, with no bleeding and no altering — just pure, delicious fruit.
